Choosing a Funeral Director

When it comes to choosing a funeral director, the choice can be bewildering. Even for those who take a cautious approach and spend time looking at various website, it can be difficult to discern which company is the right one for you and your family. This is where our ‘Recommended by the Good Funeral Guide’ listings are uniquely placed to be helpful.

Unlike the plethora of price comparison websites or other listings of ‘recommended funeral directors’, we have spent time meeting every one of the companies we list as ‘Recommended by The Good Funeral Guide’.

Our accreditation process is robust and comprehensive and has been refined over the years since we began recommending individual funeral directors. As the first step, we require every company applying to us to complete a comprehensive and wide-ranging self assessment form and to supply us with third party references. We also undertake our own due diligence with further enquiries.

Only if we are completely satisfied with all the information supplied will we progress to the second part of our process, which involves an in depth interview with the GFG Board of Directors. We require a full tour of the premises including the behind the scenes areas, and we ask to meet all the key members of staff.

Once we are all in agreement that we are happy to allow a company to become one of our listed funeral directors, we write a comprehensive review and publish it here on our website.

While the companies we recommend all share similar exemplary qualities, they may or may not share the opinions of the Good Funeral Guide on various matters, or the stance that we take in posts on the GFG Blog.

Every company we list as Recommended has undertaken our stringent accreditation process. We have scrutinised their completed self-assessment form, we’ve spent time with the owner and their key colleagues, we’ve been shown around the premises and we’ve asked lots of questions.

We have satisfied ourselves that we would trust these people and these companies to look after a member of our own family, and we have written about them in detail in our reviews.

If you are a funeral director and are interested in being recommended by us then we invite you to apply for accreditation. Not every applicant succeeds, but if you do then you will be in excellent company.
